Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata advanced without problems in the Copa Argentina by defeating Acassuso 3-0. The Lobo achieved the pass to the quarterfinals of the federal tournament and waits for the winner of the match between San Lorenzo and Riestra. In a matter of weeks, Gimnasia went from going through a crisis to winning four games in a row, placing itself in playoff positions, and being the first to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Copa Argentina. And when the search for a coach after Zarinatto's departure seemed urgent, they found a solution with Ariel Pereyra, who was only going to direct the match against Camioneros but the good results made his interim position last, a priori, until the end of the year. The coach knew that the match against Susso was the opportunity to ratify the improvement, and instead of speculating about the difference in category, he opted for a mix between starters and substitutes. Gimnasia quickly went out to seek the advantage and was deep, but lacked precision and as the minutes went by, it started to cost them more and more despite some approaches and a well-annulled goal. On the other side, the Quemero opted to resist and wait to take advantage of some mistake by the rival. Only after 20 minutes of play did they sketch some weak arrivals, but none of danger. Everything that the Tripero could not do in the first half, they concreted in the second: they came out with renewed energy and in the first minutes, Nacho Fernández -who took the reins and was the best of the night- commanded a collective play with pure touch in which he ended up assisting Franco Torres to open the scoring. At 3’, came the second cry: Nacho put a center in the right place to find Renzo Giampaoli. The central header was unmarked and the goalkeeper rejected, but the rebound remained and he scored the 2-0 to stretch the advantage. The team of Darío Lema -who played with all substitutes- did not have time to react, suffered a lot and it was clear that their priority is in the Primera Nacional, where they have six games without achieving a win and are two units away from the direct relegation positions. With the match liquidated, Barros Schelotto sealed the crushing victory in Caseros and awakened another illusion in the tripero people. Now, Gimnasia arrives with a great emotional boost and depending on itself to play two finals against Belgrano and Argentinos Juniors to stay among the top eight in the Apertura. In the Copa Argentina, meanwhile, they wait for San Lorenzo or Riestra in the quarterfinals.
